The legality of kratom in Canada is similar to that in the US. The Health Canada and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CIFA) have stated that it is illegal to sell or possess Kratom for ingestion. But, kratom capsules and powders are still sold in Canada. Kratom is legal in other South American countries with the Dominican Republic being a Grey area.

Kratom Legality in Asia

Despite Kratom having its roots in Asia, it is illegal in different countries there. Countries in the Association of Southeast Sian Nations (ASEAN) have banned the use of Kratom for dietary and traditional uses. It is illegal to buy, sell or use Kratom in these countries. South Africa is the only African country with clear legality on Kratom. It is legal in South Africa as it is regarded as an herbal remedy. Even though Kratom wasn’t criminalized, it is unlawful to sell it as a drug.

Brazil is the only country in South America that has stated clearly that Kratom is illegal. There is no clear statement on the legality of Kratom leaves in other South American countries.
